What We Do

In the U.S. - Credentialing - Trainer Certification

ProLiteracy’s Trainer Certification System supports adult education and literacy training excellence. Locally driven, flexible, and competency-based, the System’s goal is to create a national network of trainers knowledgeable in basic literacy, English as a second language (ESL), or both. See the Trainer Certification Manual for more information.

Benefits of Trainer Certification:

  • Local programs decide who will become trainers
  • Flexible paths for trainers as they achieve key competencies
  • Certified trainers give local programs additional credibility
  • Establishes specific competency standards for trainer content knowledge and training skills
  • Supports trainers’ continued professional development

To begin the trainer certification process, local programs must:

  • Submit an application for the trainer, including a local/state program endorsement
  • Submit a processing fee (ProLiteracy member program-$80; non-members, $205)

To become certified, trainers must:

Trainers have 18 months from application to complete the certification requirements. Certifications run for four years, after which time trainers may apply for recertification.

Once certified, trainers may register their training participants and tutors for free ProLiteracy trial membership.
