Obama Taps Former ProLiteracy President for Key Position Robert Wedgeworth headed ProLiteracy for five years SYRACUSE, NY, Jan. 27, 2010 — ProLiteracy has received word that President Obama intends to name former ProLiteracy president Robert Wedgeworth to serve on the National Museum and Library Services Board. The Board provides general policy advice to the director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Before accepting the presidency of ProLiteracy, Wedgeworth served as University Librarian, Professor of Library Administration, and Professor of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. ProLiteracy, the world's largest nongovernmental organization of adult literacy and basic education programs, was formed when adult literacy programs Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America merged in 2002. Wedgeworth retired from ProLiteracy in June 2007. "Bob's experience in library and information science and his work in adult literacy will bring a unique perspective to the Museum and Library Services Board," said David C. Harvey, current ProLiteracy president and CEO. "Everyone at ProLiteracy extends Bob sincere congratulations on this prestigious nomination, and we are proud that a ProLiteracy alum will have a place in the current administration."
