ProLiteracy Launches Spanish Language Radio PSA CampaignIn an effort to reach some of the 45 million Hispanic people in the U.S. who speak Spanish as their first or second language, ProLiteracy recently distributed Spanish-language radio public service announcements (PSA) to more than 100 of the top Spanish radio stations in the country. Popular Telemundo actor Christian Carabias donated his time and talent to the spots that encourage people to learn more about the English-as-a-second-language (ESL) services available from many programs in the ProLiteracy network. To give listeners more information and resource options, ProLiteracy also created a new Spanish-language micro-website, www.LeerIngles.com, where visitors can learn more about ESL services and facts about literacy, hear more from Christian, and use the Program Finder online tool to connect with a program in their area. For those without access to the Internet, listeners also have the option to call ProLiteracy's toll-free number to talk with a Spanish-speaking operator about where the closest ESL program is located. In the weeks to come, Christian will be conducting a number of interviews with radio stations where he will share his personal struggles with literacy and the value he places on it for his and his family's well-being. ProLiteracy plans to continue expanding the Spanish-language content on the www.LeerIngles.com website, and members of the ProLiteracy network are encouraged to share this new resource with their students and supporters.
