USCAL Midwest Regional a Great Success

USCAL Midwest Regional a Great Success

Thank you to all attendees, sponsors, and co-hosts for an extraordinary event

Feedback from USCAL Midwest Regional participants was overwhelmingly positive, including:

"This was the best conference I've ever attended in 20 years in the field!"—a program director

"I plan to craft/encourage the creation of a student-learner evaluation process so that learners are empowered to give more feedback. The conference was full of energizing spirit. It was good to have so many passionate people in one place sharing ideas, best practices, and frustrations."—an operations coordinator

"I have all kinds of ideas of how to incorporate more job-related education and collaborations."—an executive director

It’s a wrap for the first United States Conference on Adult Literacy (USCAL) Midwest Regional, which took place in Milwaukee on Feb. 24-25, 2011. The two-day conference brought together regional constituents from all fronts of the adult literacy effort—student learners, instructors, volunteers, managers, and advocates—to build national and regional support networks, exchange the latest professional development information, and learn cutting-edge approaches to address the challenges facing adult literacy programs.

More than 130 participants representing 13 states attended USCAL Midwest Regional. Notable guests included Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee; Michael Burke, president of Milwaukee Area Technical College; and Paul Decker, Rotary District 6270 governor.

"I am so pleased with how well the USCAL Midwest Regional went," says David C. Harvey, president and CEO of ProLiteracy. "With this new conference format, we truly broke new ground. Our sincere gratitude to our partners—Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services, Wisconsin Literacy, and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation—and to everyone involved in making the conference a great success."

We hope to see you at the national conference in Houston!
