ProLiteracy Congratulates Board Member on Literacy Award
Emily West, a board member of ProLiteracy, is set to receive the Literacy Leaders Hall of Fame Award on April 21, 2012.
The award is presented annually by Indy Reads, a ProLiteracy accredited program that provides free coaching for adults with low literacy skills in Central Indiana. West will be honored at a special event called the Indy Reads Alphabet Affair, which aims to raise funds for literacy efforts. This year, the event will celebrate the letter “N” with guests wearing “N”-themed costumes such as Napoleon or Nancy Drew.
“As a long standing member of the ProLiteracy board, for many years Emily West has supported our international Literacy for Social Change programs around the world," said David C. Harvey. "She has brought passion, energy, and vision to our work, and I am so pleased that Emily is being recognized for her important leadership by Indy Reads."
West is the executive director of the West Foundation, an Indianapolis-based organization working in the international community development sector. She is extensively involved in budgeting, proposal review and development, and monitoring and evaluation of supported programs. She also mentors various small nonprofit organizations across the world in the areas of fundraising, board development, and administration.
West has been an active advocate for literacy programs. She was a Laubach Literacy tutor for the city of Indianapolis and has served as mentor for grade six students as part of a program for the Indianapolis Public School System.
