Join the Student Advisory Council
Student Advisory Council members make sure the student voice is heard in the work of ProLiteracy Worldwide. The council reports directly to the president of ProLiteracy Worldwide and works with different departments, staff, and governance groups on a variety of issues.
Skills and Level of Experience
To become a council member, a person must:
- be currently connected with a ProLiteracy Worldwide group affiliate or partner organization and have been active for at least two years
- show evidence of community involvement
- be prepared to handle written information, or arrange help to read and understand written information (if necessary)
- have good communication and critical thinking skills
- have the ability to understand how organizations work and the purpose of boards and advisory groups
- have an active e-mail account (or be willing to get one)
Duties of Members:
- bring student point of view to a variety of organizational issues
- respond to information, participate in discussions, and give opinions about issues
- complete preparation necessary for meetings
- attend two face-to-face meetings per year and participate in up to six telephone conference calls per year
