SYRACUSE, N.Y., October 4, 2022—ProLiteracy, the largest adult literacy and basic education membership organization in the United States, announces the release of Volume 4, Issue 3, of its research journal Adult Literacy Education: The International Journal of Literacy, Language, and Numeracy.
The goal of the journal is to provide practitioners with information and evidence-based practices related to the needs of the field. To that end, this issue includes four Report from the Field articles related to technology and digital literacy. Journal contributors write about the widespread and growing use of financial technology; a partnership with an affordable housing organization to build residents’ digital literacy skills; a framework for teachers to integrate technology into their face-to-face lessons; and specific activities that can increase the increasingly essential digital abilities of adults.
In the research article “‘It’s a Different World': Language Ideologies, Literacies, and College Readiness,” authors Meagan A. Hoff of Collin College and Jessica S. Reynolds of Texas A&M University – San Antonio, explore instructors’ perceptions of how to best prepare linguistically diverse students for the literacy expectations of college courses.
ProLiteracy proudly produces this journal in partnership with Rutgers University. The journal editors—Alisa Belzer, Amy Rose, and Heather Brown—are respected researchers.
"The journal is a valuable resource we can provide to improve learner outcomes. Not only does it present focused articles about proven strategies and instructional practices, but it also builds a deeper understanding of adult learners and the struggles they face,” says Mark Vineis, ProLiteracy president and CEO.
You can find the new issue of Adult Literacy Education at https://www.proliteracy.org/ALE-Journal. Writers interested in submitting articles for consideration in future issues of the journal can find author guidelines and a submission form on the journal’s webpage.
The Adult Literacy Education journal is part of ProLiteracy’s initiative to conduct and share primary and secondary research with the wide adult-education audience in the United States and around the world. By keeping the research free to access, ProLiteracy ensures the important information in the journal can benefit all adult learners equally.
The online journal is published three times per year to share research and best practices in adult literacy, numeracy, and English language education with practitioners, policy makers, and funders. Each issue of Adult Literacy Education includes thought-provoking and peer-reviewed research articles written by leaders in the field. It also features other content of interest like resource reviews, opinion pieces, discussion forums, and technology solutions.
