ProLiteracy's Board of Directors works diligently to lead the organization forward in creating resources to meet the needs of the field while maintaining fiscal responsibility. We are grateful for their dedication to and support of our mission.
We are pleased to announce that we have added three new board members who are committed to advancing our mission to change lives and communities through the power of adult literacy. Joining the board, which is led by Chair Ginger Duiven, are William Manzanares IV, Denise Nelson, and Marc J. Strohl.
Each comes to ProLiteracy with a background that will help them inform and guide the board’s decisions.
Manzanares, from the Tacoma area of Washington, is an active member of the Puyallup Tribe and an entrepreneur who is passionate about helping struggling readers. He grew up with dyslexia and himself struggled to learn to read. From his experience, he wrote the book I Can’t Read: A Guide to Success Through Failure to help kids improve their literacy and pursue their dreams.
With 25 years working in the nonprofit sector, Nelson, from California, offers the board her advocacy and fundraising expertise. Currently, Nelson is the vice president of development at Jumpstart, a national early education organization that works to prepare every child in America to succeed.
Strohl is a multi-state licensed CPA and the founding principal at Protax Consulting Services Inc. in Manhattan. As an expert in his field, Strohl publishes many tax articles, serves as a frequent guest speaker at events, and provides online CPE and CLE courses to CPAs and attorneys worldwide.
