Potential Implications of the Tax Reform Legislation
Posted by Peter Waite on November 28, 2017 in categoryNewscategoryAdvocacy

The recent proposed tax reform legislation may have some significant implications for education and social services in general. While we don’t yet know the full extent of the impact on the overall budget, some initial estimates suggest that there could be a considerable decrease in funding for education across the board, including for adult education. In addition to possible cuts to adult education, cuts to other social services and related education programs could dramatically affect our students and their families.

Once the real impact of the proposed tax reform bills become clear, we will work to ensure that we express our concerns related to our programs and our students. It is difficult to assess the true impact at this time given the uncertainty of the actual figures and related economic growth estimates. In any event, we will be monitoring and commenting on any actions that may negatively affect adult learners and programs.

We hope you will continue to share with us any local implications you are aware of and any thoughts you have on how we can best support your efforts.  In the meantime, we will continue to share with you our thoughts and analysis on national public policy and advocacy efforts.
