LeVar Burton, host of the long-running PBS children series Reading Rainbow, is taking to his Twitter Livestream during the COVID-19 pandemic to read to his followers. He is one of many celebrities going live to read, but he is switching the script and deviating from only reading children’s stories to include young adult and adult selections as well.

“I’ve dedicated my life to the power of storytelling. Whether I’m acting, directing, writing, or podcasting, I believe sharing stories is what I was born to do because storytelling is what brings us all together.” –LeVar Burton

The inclusion of adult literature in his livestream reading schedule is a great way to address the thousands of adults who are low literate. This acknowledgement can lead to open conversation and inclusion across an entire community. This can also act as a great reading tool for adult learners to read along with.
