Introducing the Great American Book Sale
Posted by Jessica Gilmour on September 17, 2020 in categoryNew Readers PresscategoryNews

Beginning on September 21, the Great American Book Sale, presented by New Readers Press (ProLiteracy’s publishing division), will bring together a variety of genres and authors for a unique shopping experience. Customers can safely shop or bid on autographed books from authors across genres. Money raised from the sale will support the Literacy Relief Fund, which gives adult literacy programs access to needed digital and print learning materials.

Customers can expect to see books donated by publishers Penguin Random House, William Morrow (an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers), and St. Martin’s Press. Authors who donated books include Nora Roberts, JoJo Moyes, Lemony Snicket, and many more. Since the pandemic began, many adult literacy programs have been struggling to connect with offsite learners. Many programs have indicated that while their classroom locations are physically closed, they are still reaching students through some method(s) of remote learning. However, programs are in desperate need of additional funding, staff training on digital learning tools and instructional content with both print and digital components. All proceeds from this sale will support the Literacy Relief Fund, giving programs the ability to access digital and print learning materials needed to implement and continue remote education.

“ProLiteracy is excited to host the Great American Book Sale to raise money for literacy programs affected by COVID-19,” says Kevin Morgan, president and CEO of ProLiteracy Worldwide. “The participation from the authors, publishers, and sponsors has transformed this event from a dream to a reality. The profits raised from their donations will provide the necessary materials that will impact thousands of low literate adults and adult literacy programs across the United States,” Morgan says.
