ProLiteracy's CEO and President Kevin Morgan talked recently with Margaret Becker Patterson, PhD, author of “PIAAC Numeracy Skills and Home Use Among Adult English Learners,” over Zoom. Patterson’s article was featured in Volume 2, Issue 1 of ProLiteracy’s research journal Adult Literacy Education: The International Journal of Literacy, Language, and Numeracy.

Patterson and Morgan discussed the relationship between English learners’ numeracy skills levels and how they use those skills at home

One of the findings of this report is that if you expand numeracy skill use … it can really benefit the numeracy skills of adult English learners. It’s a two-way relationship. Use it or lose it. If you use the skills you tend to keep them, if you don’t use them you tend to lose them.
