How Your Everyday Purchases Add Up for ProLiteracy
Posted by Laura McLoughlin on July 22, 2021 in categoryNews

Head out to your favorite restaurant. Buy those new running shoes you’ve been eying. Treat yourself at the coffee shop. Go to a movie.

Donating to ProLiteracy has never been more fun.

We are now giving adult literacy supporters the chance to round up their everyday purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to ProLiteracyIt couldn’t be easier. When you sign up and link your credit or debit card, the transaction happens automatically and securely. You don’t even need to think about it.

Need a gallon of milk? When you use your card for $2.83 at the convenience store, the Spare Change program rounds your purchase up to $3, and ProLiteracy will get the remaining 17 cents.

But, let’s be real, between the ease of online shopping, and the fact that fewer people carry cash, it can be easy to charge your card over and over and, well, over in the course of a day. And while 17 cents seems like very little, you could end up rounding up more than you anticipated over the course of a week or month.

This is where the ability to set a monthly limit on your donations comes in, if you’d like. But, it’s also useful to note that each time you round up, that spare change isn’t sent to ProLiteracy in tiny increments. The system tallies every roundup until it reaches $5, at which point the donation is triggered. This keeps your bank statement from being overwhelmed with micro-charges.

We pride ourselves in our history of providing local literacy programs with the materials and resources they need to serve adult learners throughout the U.S. and around the globe. Your spare change will help us continue

Let’s make change together.
