Watch: A Conversation About Adult Education with the Australian Council for Adult Literacy
Posted by Laura McLoughlin on August 26, 2022 in categoryStories from the Field

This summer, ProLiteracy was invited to write an article for the Australian Council for Adult Literacy (ACAL) to include in its July 2022 newsletter. The article explained how ProLiteracy’s work supports adult education programs and students both in the U.S. and around the world.

Following the article’s publication, ProLiteracy’s Director of Professional Development Todd Evans and Senior Membership Manager Michelle Smith met virtually with ACAL President Jo Medlin. They spoke about their organizations and the similarities and differences between adult education and literacy in the U.S. and Australia.

Throughout the course of their conversation, they discussed the need to increase awareness of adult education and literacy, the importance of participation in the PIAAC survey, advocating for government funding and involvement, the challenges of reaching rural adults, the benefits of an educated workforce, plain language, and much more.
