May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. During this month we recognize the contributions of Asian and Pacific Americans to our history.

National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15 to October 15 and celebrates the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans and their contributions to our history. To fully understand America’s present, we need to understand all aspects of what shaped it. Hispanic heritage is woven into American history through arts, civil rights, politics, science, sports, and more. 

Eight years ago, something really great happened in Alaska. The Alaska Literacy Program, Providence Alaska Medical Center, and University of Alaska Anchorage collaborated to find a way to reach and address the health care needs of the immigrant and refugee community: people helping people.
