A Tribute to Barbara Bush
Please join ProLiteracy in sending our deepest condolences to the Bush family on the passing of Barbara Bush, the admired wife of one president and the loyal mother of another. During her time at the White House, Mrs. Bush established herself as a champion of literacy, encouraging reading and writing among Americans. In 1989, she founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.
Mrs. Bush hoped her contributions to literacy would form a large part of her legacy. “I want to be known as a wife, a mother, a grandmother,” she wrote. “That’s what I am. And I’d like to be known as someone who really cared about people and worked very, very hard to make America more literate.”
Please sign the card and share your thoughts, memories of visits, letters, or other interactions that you may have had with Barbara Bush over the years.
