People in Action for Cultural Enrichment (PACE) Ghana is a small community based library project based in Worawora, a small community about 4 hours north of Accra. Since its establishment, The Okyeame Dankwa Memorial Community Library has a great impact in the community by providing adequate educational tools: books, computers, newspapers, literacy classes, HIV/AIDS workshops and educational video programs. It has more than 3,000 adult and children’s books, and offers adult literacy classes, computer literacy and other programs for youth and adults. The establishment of the Okyeame Dankwa Memorial Library has played a significant role in the community. Most students have stopped roaming the town after school hours and prefer reading at the library. Students now get free access to books to broaden their knowledge and improve on their academic performance.

“Adult literacy is very valuable to adults in the community because it helps people with things related to life, such as going to the market and knowing prices and not getting cheated, as well as being able to read road signs. Adults in our community want to go back to school and enjoy being able to read.”
