Access to health literacy does not just mean obtaining and retrieving information but the ability to acquire that information in ways that make sense to the patient, in this case the adult English language learner. Health literacy access also involves understanding health literacy resources and how to use them. Specific skills are required to obtain, understand, and use health information through verbal communication, not just through written materials. In this essay, the Larrotta amplifies and expands on some of Santo’s points from Part 1 of the Forum.
