Frequently Asked Questions

All proceeds from the 2023 sale will support ProLiteracy’s National Book Fund and Mobile Learning Fund, which provide adult literacy and basic education programs with print and digital materials to help teach adults to read.

Authors from all genres are welcome to participate. If you are an author or publisher, reach out to Amanda (awilson@proliteracy.org).

There are so many ways you can help! You can volunteer for a local adult education organization, set up a monthly donation for the cost of a cup of coffee, or even follow @ProLiteracy on your favorite social media platform to share the latest research, an infographic, or a link to GreatAmericanBookSale.com.

No. All sales are final.

Please email Amanda Wilson, annual fund manager, at awilson@proliteracy.org for more information.

We recommend that donated books be recent, published within the last five years. We prefer to receive no more than 1-5 copies per title, in order to make the offerings exclusive.

In-kind donations, such as books, need to arrive at ProLiteracy’s headquarters no later than April 17, 2023.

No worries! ProLiteracy has Great American Book Sale bookplates available, if needed. Each bookplate is a sticker with space to sign and write a short message to the reader. When we receive the signed bookplates, ProLiteracy staff will affix them to the books prior to shipping. Bookplates MUST be received at least one week before the sale begins. Additionally, you can send in your own bookplate separate from titles and ProLiteracy staff will affix the bookplates.

Help us promote the sale! Authors, publishers, and sponsors who market or share content about the sale help to get their titles into the hands of readers! A toolkit is available, and new content is being added to help you.
