The Literacy Opportunity Fund gives nonprofit literacy programs the help they need, where they need it most. Since its inception in 2021, hundreds of nonprofit programs have received awards up to $6,000 for general operating expenses so they can reduce some of their financial burdens and put more energy into serving their clients and improving literacy.
This includes programs like Greater Orange Area Literacy Services, which used its 2024 Literacy Opportunity Fund grant to pay telephone and internet bills for almost a year. This freed up money to build a long-needed website, which has increased the program’s visibility and led to more students contacting it for services.
This fund is more critical than ever as programs grapple with uncertain and reduced personal donations, community grants, and state and federal funding. It helps keep doors open and student and instructor resources in hand, so the millions of adults who need literacy services nationwide can continue their trek toward a more fulfilling future.
