The Small Business Basics: Promoting English Language Instruction through Business Development curriculum was designed teach English to immigrants and refugees who also want to start their own business. The curriculum addresses six principles of small business entrepreneurship:

  1. product
  2. process
  3. price
  4. paperwork
  5. promotion
  6. plan

For each topic, students read a story about a small business owner, then explore the topic through discussion and group activities, learning English in the process.

This curriculum assumes you have experience teaching ESL and utilizes common teaching strategies. You do not need a background in small business to use this curriculum.

There is also an online course that will help you learn to use the curriculum more effectively.
