About This Course
This course introduces adult literacy and ESL instructors to the importance of vocabulary instruction. In this course, you will learn how vocabulary develops in children and adults and explore some of the challenges faced by adults. You’ll identify tools for assessing vocabulary and identify the limitations of assessing adult vocabularies. You’ll review principles you can use to select words for vocabulary instruction and discover teaching strategies and activities you can use with students to help them develop their vocabularies. References to relevant research, as well as links to resources, are included.
