Developing Writers: Building Confidence, Ideas, and Writing Habits
Many adult learners approach writing with hesitation, limited confidence, or negative experiences from school. This webinar explores practical strategies for reducing writing anxiety, encouraging creativity, and helping learners generate and develop ideas before they begin writing. Participants will learn instructional routines that build confidence, strengthen the foundational skills that support effective writing, and can be adapted for ABE, HSE, English language, and multilevel classrooms as well as one-on-one tutoring. Throughout the session, we will also highlight ways to adapt these strategies for online instruction.

From Brainstorm to Final Draft: Teaching the Writing Process
Teaching students to write involves much more than assigning a writing prompt and correcting the final product. This webinar examines each stage of the writing process, including prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and producing a final product, and provides practical strategies for teaching each step. Participants will explore ways to model the writing process, support learners through revision, and incorporate meaningful writing activities that can be adapted for learners at different proficiency levels, in multilevel classrooms, and in online settings.

Writing for the Real World: Authentic Writing Tasks for Adult Learners
Writing instruction can provide learners with opportunities to communicate for purposes that extend beyond the classroom. This webinar explores how to develop meaningful writing tasks that connect to learners’ everyday lives, workplaces, communities, and future goals. Participants will examine examples of different types of real-world writing and consider how to create tasks with authentic purposes and audiences that can be adapted for learners at different proficiency levels, in multilevel classrooms, and in one-on-one tutoring.

About the Presenter
Michele Vick is an educational consultant with Texas A&M University’s Center for Teaching Excellence, where she provides English language support for international faculty and teaching assistants. She has taught adults English as a Foreign Language for more than 20 years and has trained teachers for more than 10 years. Michele has designed and taught writing-focused courses for adult learners in both in-person and online settings, helping learners develop their writing skills and confidence. She specializes in designing engaging, practical learning experiences that help educators support adult learners’ language and literacy development. This is her fourth year presenting and facilitating workshops with ProLiteracy’s Teacher Training Plus.
