The author of this paper has noticed that learners who make it past the first 12 hours of class participation are more likely to stay enrolled. In this paper, the author describes an action research project that explores a more systematic approach retaining students in the early days of their program participation. This approach would not only bolster retention but also be sustainable—fostering teacher immediacy through textingTo understand the impact of this effort, the author conducted an action research project.
