Teacher Training Plus creates a dynamic and supportive professional learning community to provide tutors and teachers of adult learners with ongoing access to high-quality training, practical resources, and expert guidance. This research-driven professional development series is designed to equip educators with the skills and confidence to deliver effective and technology-rich instruction across content areas:

Adult Foundational Education (for native English speakers)
English Language Learning
High School Equivalency Instruction
Workplace & Digital Literacy

Teacher Training Plus, funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, encourages continued growth and empowers educators to support adult learners in building the skills for lifelong learning, meaningful employment, and active participation in today’s digital world.

Each strand will address topics like:

Teaching in multilevel classrooms or groups
Adapting in-person teaching strategies for distance learning
Supporting diverse learners with practical, research-based approaches
Teaching with technology (digital tools, strategies, and techniques)

Coaching workshops follow each webinar to support tutors and teachers in implementing new content and strategies.

Our Adult Foundational Education strand addresses the core components of reading and writing, tailored for native English-speaking learners at or below a 5th-grade equivalent literacy level. This strand emphasizes the practical application of foundational skills, integrating phonics and fluency development, targeted vocabulary acquisition, and strategies for improving both writing and reading comprehension.

Our English language learning strand focuses on strategies and instruction for students who range from low beginning to advanced levels. Topics include strategies for developing vocabulary and sentence structure and building conversation skills at any level.

Our High School Equivalency (HSE) strand focuses on skills necessary for obtaining the GED and HiSET. Topics include various aspects of reading and writing around these exams and how to effectively prepare students for success on the exams.

Our workplace and digital literacy strand focuses on the essential and soft skills adult learners need to be successful at work, now and in the future. Topics include finding, and applying for jobs online, with a specific emphasis on the digital literacy for navigating online platforms and understanding digital application processes. We also cover competencies crucial for effective teamwork and professional interactions including written communication in the workplace. This strand also explores the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the job market, helping instructors and students understand how AI tools are used in various industries and how to leverage them responsibly and effectively.
